Obesity
Obesity is now considered at least equal to smoking as a preventable cause of premature death. It is also a primary cause, or major contributor to a myriad of chronic conditions and diseases. It is a lifestyle that is becoming a part of the culture of our young and a part of the growth of our economies. It will not be easy to change. Obesity causes serious comorbidities, shortens life expectancy, reduces quality of life, and increases health care costs. An effective solution that is broadly acceptable is clearly needed.
